Turning 29 in Seoul! (Day 2)

Bukchon Hanok Village

Day 2 started with a trip to Bukchon Hanok Village. It was a bit challenging to find because there were no markers around and it really did just look like a normal village. My sister and I had fun going into these little shops selling touristy trinkets. πŸ™‚

Turning 29 in Seoul! (Day 1)

I wanted to do something different on my 29th birthday, so I decided to spend it abroad. It originally was supposed to be a solo trip but my sister wanted to go to Seoul too, so she decided to go with me. πŸ™‚

If you will recall, I already went to Seoul last year, so the goal of this year’s trip was to go to the places that I wasn’t able to go to the year before, and to also show my sister the things that I loved most about the city. This was our itinerary:

Seoul Searching Diaries: KOREAN FOOD!!!

This entry will contain a shit load of photos, just because I cannot for the life of me describe the food that we ate in Seoul. All I know is that I enjoyed all of them! :)) Allan and I went on an all-Korean diet while we were there, so we got to taste perhaps a good representative demographic (that sounds so serious!) of Korean food. We did fast food, street food, junk food, the grilled meat that I totally loved, and buffet.

Fast food: Lotteria

The first meal of the day was at a random Lotteria branch inside a mall whose name I could no longer remember. We split a Bulgogi burger and some chicken strips. Some actually say that the Korean Mcdonalds’ version of the Bulgogi burger is better, but I didn’t mind. I was there for the experience anyway.

Oh, no food photos for this one. We were too hungry! Hahaha. πŸ™‚

Seoul Searching Diaries: Seeing North Korea from the DMZ

Image

Seeing North Korea has always been a fantasy of mine. Β I know, I know. There’s nothing much to see there, but come on, how many people do you know have actually seen North Korea? Good thing my friend also shares the same sentiments, so we booked ourselves a tour to the DMZ on our second day. We originally wanted to get the DMZ and JSA tour, but time constraints wouldn’t allow us to do so.Β

Seoul Searching Diaries: The Touristy Things

3 days in Seoul was definitely not enough to cover all that we wanted to do in the city. I actually had this excel file of things that we wanted to do or see, and we only got to doing about half of the things there. 😦 Of course, being the culture geeks that we are, we had to do the typical touristy things in Seoul.

Seoul Searching Diaries: Gom Guesthouse Dongdaemun

Having secured our visas for South Korea, Agoda was our go to website to find accommodations for our stay in Seoul. Allan and I really wanted to stay at the Myeongdong area because of friends’ recommendations, but alas, we ended up staying at Dongdaemun.

A quick search of accommodations in Seoul will result in a handful of hotels and a lot of hostels/guesthouses. I really just wanted to stay at a cheap hostel/guesthouse because I figured we wouldn’t be staying long in there anyway. After all, we onlyΒ needed a place to sleep at and to leave our stuff in. We initially chose Gom Guesthouse Myeongdong because of the photos and the reviews on Agoda, but after booking, they emailed us saying that there had been a mix up and they had no available room for us on the date that we wanted. They moved us to their Dongdaemun branch instead. I would’ve been annoyed at this, but they were so nice and apologetic about it, I couldn’t find it in me to be annoyed. πŸ™‚

Seoul Searching Diaries: Fun with a Monopod! :)

Because I had time (too much time, from the looks of it) on my hands, I made a video of our Seoul trip. This was all shot with a help of a monopod, which earned us weird/amazed looks from the people there. πŸ™‚

Thanks Tel for lending me your monopod! And thanks to Virlynn for the Exo-K song on the background. If I hadn’t consulted you I would’ve put a Super Junior/2ne1/Psy song there just because I am a kpop noob. Hahaha.
